Ruth got into podcasting as a last resort to try to get the traction she wanted with her business. She had been in business for 2 years and she found that even though she was creating tons of content and was showing up on all the platforms that something was missing. She wasn’t connecting with her audience like she wanted to and that’s what led her to podcasting. Ruth shared that she realized that sometimes you need to go through a really big slump to really discover what you’re meant to do.
In this episode, Ruth and I talk about pivoting in your business, why podcasting is such a powerful way to communicate with your audience and how to create a team that will get you the best results.
Confused People Don’t Buy
When Ruth decided to transition from her branding and design business to podcasting, her audience that had been following her for 2+ years was a little confused. She was moving into a whole new space and her audience was trying to keep up. If you are transitioning or rebranding, don’t be afraid to keep your audience in the loop. If you are planning on shutting things down and relaunching, spend that downtime re-educating your audience about your new offers. You can do that through social media, your email list, videos or even your podcast. If they don’t understand what you are offering or what services you could provide, then they simply won’t buy and will most likely leave. Be transparent, be upfront and let them in so they won’t feel so much of the whiplash when you re-launch.
Create Your Credibility Funnel
You might have all the knowledge I the world about a certain topic, but if no one knows who you are or trusts you, then no one is going to listen. A credibility funnel is there to basically position you as an authority figure in your market. That could mean sharing your background, your success statistics, your products or services…all in one place that is branded and written in a way that proves your credibility. You don’t have to be a 6 figure business owner to have a credibility funnel that works. Simply share why you are talking about the topic you’ve chosen for your podcast and why you have the authority to talk about that topic. Once people feel like they can trust you and see that you are a credible source of information, your listener base will not only become more loyal but will also grow.
Ruth’s Productivity Tips
1. Be really intentional when you sit down to work. Focus on one task at a time and really be clear about what exactly needs to get done.
2. Try turning your phone on airplane mode before you go to sleep an then turn it back on later the next morning. That allows you to be productive in the morning instead of scrolling through social media.
3. Create and get down a reliable morning routine so your brainpower isn’t being sucked up with having to constantly make decisions.
