“It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.” – Napoleon Hill
To achieve the best results, we must be willing to help others and this quote reminded me so much of Tammy and what she is doing with her new company The Creative Folks. When you help other people, they are more willing to help you in the future. Nobody can reach success without the help of other people and helping people in the process makes the journey that much better.
Tammy Huynh has taken this idea to heart when she created The Creative Folks. She has worked to create a resource center for creatives in the Atlanta area and is continuing to grow and pour into the community with the articles, reviews, blog posts and inspiration ideas.
So I am thrilled to introduce you to The Creative Folks and how they are encouraging others to feed the hustle.
Just Because You Got A Degree In one Thing Doesn’t Mean You Can’t Pursue Something Else:
So you’ve just seen 4 years working your ass off to get a degree in something you thought you wanted to pursue and all the sudden…you change your mind. After all your hard work, after all the late nights, after all the papers and exams and stress, you’ve decided that what you want to pursue has nothing to do with your degree. If you’ve been in this position, you know it can be terrifying. Not only do you feel like you might have just wasted four years and thousands of dollars, but now you are contemplating pursing a career in something that you might not have any training in. But guess what…you are not alone.
According to the Washington Post, only 27% of college grads have a job related to their major. 27%!! So don’t sweat it if you decide to change your mind about what you want to do. Let’s be honest, who really knows what they want to do for the rest of their life at 19? You’re going to change and your vision is going to change and that’s ok. Tammy has learned to take bits and pieces form every job, eery degree, every experience and learn how she can apply it to what she wants to do. Nothing you do has to be a wasted experience and you can always learn something.
Create A Team That Is A Family:
Bringing on a team in your business can be one of the hardest and most rewarding experiences as a business owner. Making sure that you bring on the right people is imperative and it doesn’t always happen on the first try. Tammy suggests to look for people with different talents that will complement you and support you, instead of just bringing on people with the same talents as you. Another suggestion she has is to find people with similar values will help create a community culture that is supportive and healthy that also challenges everyone to be their best. Tammy has started with an internship program that not only helps her figure out what type of people she wants to bring on her team but also allows her to support and pour into other creatives.
Establish A Company Culture:
When it comes to company culture Tammy suggests that you establish those values early on. Make it clear that these are values that you believe in and that you implement in your daily life. One way to begin to establish company culture early on is in how you communicate with your team. Is is casual, is it more formal, can you text each other, is email preferred or do you want your team to prioritize face to face interactions? These small choices can help set a precedent for how your team interacts and how your company culture is established.
