As many of you know, I stared the Hustlenomics Podcast to help support, empower and celebrate badass female entrepreneurs in creative industries. When I was introduced to DJ Adams-Walker I knew she would be a perfect fit for the show. DJ is a boudoir and maternity photographer that specializes in amazingly beautiful and moving female empowerment sessions.
In this episode, DJ and I talk all about the ins and outs of contracts, how empowering others is empowering yourself and of course, how she helps her clients embrace what they love about themselves AND what they might be insecure about in front of the camera
Let’s be honest, we all have insecurities and things about ourselves that we would rather not bare to the world, and especially not to a camera. However, DJ has created a space where you can come and celebrate your strengths, find power and grace in your insecurities and just all around have an awesome time. I’m a huge fan of DJ’s message and of her work and trust me, this episode will leave you feeling energized and inspired.
If You Aren’t Using Contracts…You Should Start Now:
As DJ mentioned in our episode, it only takes one time when you get burned to learn your lesson really, really fast. In creative fields, we are constantly working with people and most of the time we are working in hectic environments. SO that means that even if you prepare, even if you go over everything in your head beforehand, something at some point will go wrong. It happens to everyone and it doesn’t mean that you are bad at what you do or that you or the client is a bad person. Having a contract will not only protect you, but it will also protect your clients.
Dj works in a photography niche where people are baring their all and her work might include images that some people don’t want to be shared on social media or her website. That’s totally ok and she has made everything clear for her clients in her contract so not only is it clear what she will be doing and what she will be doing with the images, but it also states what the client can expect and not expect.
Trust me, if you don’t have a client contract now, head over to The Contract Shop (one of my favs) or PPA and get a contract. If anything goes wrong (and it will at some point) you’ll be glad you’re set. Not only will you be empowered as a creator, but it will also empower your clients to feel safe and covered.
You Can Find Power In Your Insecurities:
Let’s face it, we all are insecure about something. Whether it’s our weight, hair, how we talk, where we came from, our minds tend to carefully pick out those small things about ourselves that we wish would just go away
DJ works with women in a very intimate setting, shooting boudoir and maternity photography. If your insecurities are going to come out anytime, it’s probably when you have to take your close off in front of a camera. However, DJ has found another way of thinking about those insecurities we all have.
She says “have fun with it”! Who knew that by flaunting our insecurities and opening ourselves up to be vulnerable that we could actually reclaim some of that power and change the narrative in our mind! she says one of her favorite parts of her job is helping other women Learn how to love yourself without boundaries.
When You Empower Others, You Empower Yourself:
Want to find a way to feel good and feel empowered almost immediately? Find a way you can empower some else and I guarantee that smile across their face or that new light in their eyes will seriously make your day. DJ spends most of her day making other women feel beautiful, powerful and completely themselves. She mentioned that one of the best ways to feel empowered in your work and in your craft is by serving others and making them shine.
