Sometimes a creative business idea means combining the unexpected. Southern Pedaler is the epitome of this brilliant business tactic and their creativity and ingenuity has paid off!
If you never thought you could combine a bike ride with sipping on your favorite drink with a travel exclusion and 15 of your best friends then you re missing out. Thankfully Rani Shetti and her husband did just that and they have found a whole new way to explore Atlanta.
Since most of the women I talk to own online business, I was excited to hear about Rani’s experience running a brick and mortar operation as well as the unique perspective that comes with building a business that has competitors all over the world.
I hope you enjoy my interview with the awesome Rani Shetti and don’t forget to book your spot on one of their amazing party bikes when you’re in Atlanta!
Working With Your Spouse:
Rani shared that starting and running a business with her husband has admittedly caused a few more arguments than usual but I believe that they have found the perfect balance. Since both Rani and her husband have business degrees, they understand how the other thinks and can play off each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Speaking of, Rani suggests that you keep your mind open when assigning who does what in the business. She said that she ended up doing the exact opposite of what she thought her role would be and it has worked out great. Don’t be too hasty to take over but strategize with your spouse (or friend, or sibling or family member) and figure out where you can both put your strengths and weakness to the greatest advantage.
How to Find The Perfect Space For Your Business
When your business is online, having a storefront is a problem that many of us don’t think about. However, finding the perfect space for your business can make or break first impression. Rani explained that she had no idea what it would take to find that perfect spot. There is so much to consider and a lot of the time you won’t have the funds to transform a space into the “perfect” spot.
One way to help minimize the stress is to write down your “must haves” and then be flexible on everything else. Let’s be honest, unless you’re a millionaire and you build form the group up, you’re going to have to compromise on something. Might as well be prepared for that before you jump in.
How To Make Yourself Stand Out In A Saturated Market:
The travel industry is huge. That means that if you work in the travel business, wherever you go, there will be competition. Lots of it. Think of the yellow cab. It doesn’t matter where you go in the world, if you see a yellow cab, you know you can get in and pay someone to take you somewhere. You might not think about it, but that’s branding.
Rani knew she had to make her party bike stand out because there were other party bike business all around the world. So her first step was to nail her branding and marketing. Rani started with getting custom designed logo, building a kick ass website and choosing a hashtag. For a travel business, social media is key and making sure your patrons are snapping photos and using your hashtag is free marketing!
