From planning weddings and tea parties for her teddy bears as a little girl to building a successful event planning business, Jade of Jade Ladson’s Weddings understands what it takes to throw a great party. When you attend a great event you get to experience the end product. You get to enjoy the food, the decor, the music, the vibe…but what really goes into creating those unforgettable occasions and what does it take to make them happen?
In this episode, Jade pulled back the curtain and gave us a peek into the life and career of a successful event planner. We chat about everything from networking with her first client in line at the grocery store to starting an event planning business before social media. I know you won’t want to miss out on Jade’s 15 years of expertise, lessons, insights and inspiring stories.
Brand Voice:
If you have ever felt that your business seems inconstant, that your client experiences never seem to be the same and that your overall “vibe” feels scattered and unfocused then it might be time to focus in on your brand voice. Your brand voice is the feel and tone that your business gives off. It’s how you talk to customers, it’s how your copy read on your website, its how you communicate with clients. If you have a strong brand voice, then all of these elements will compliment each other, seem cohesive and make sense. Often times, those who are starting out forget to solidify their brand voice early on and their clients and potential clients end up confused about who they are.
Jade found a brand voice guide to be helpful when hiring new staff. She was able to clearly and confidently communicate her brand voice to her team so that her brand and her business didn’t go in all different directions.
Sometimes It’s Best To Throw Tradition Out The Window:
Tradition can be great. It can teach us things, it can give us a sense of history, and it can help us a lot when we are first starting out. However, it can also hold us back. Jade shared that she felt stifled by what she thought she was “supposed to do” and when she decided to go her own way against tradition, she found her path.
I think that to be successful, you have to find a balance between tradition and innovation. Throwing everything out the window can be liberating but not all traditions are bad and they can be really helpful in the right situation. But don’t let that notion of “ well this is how it’s always been done” keep you from doing something new, from doing it your way.
Using Good Old Fashioned Networking:
With social media and internet marketing and virtual meetings, face to face networking has almost become a lost art. Jade loves using all the new technologies but she still believes face to face interactions and relationships go a long way with your vendors and customers.
Think about it, when trying to stand out in your market, networking face to face might be what gives you an edge. While everyone else is meeting online, you could be the one face they see and that just might be what gets you the job.
