Community has always been an important part of experiencing and healing from grief. We all experience grief on different levels at some point in our lives and having a community around you to support you during that time can make all the difference.
You would think that the internet would facilitate these communities and help us connect more. However, more often than not, the internet makes us feel more isolated than ever and allows us to start comparing our grief, our experience and our healing process to others.
I love hearing about people who want to change that and give others a way to connect both online and in person in real and authentic ways. Crystal Webster of Sharing Solace is doing just that, and her mission and generosity have been a beacon of light in the lives of those who are struggling.
The careful thought that goes into each part of her business is so inspiring, and I am in awe of her courage to open her heart to others out there that need to hear her story and message.
When we recorded this episode, Sharing Solace was still in pre-order status, but you can now officially order your token with the locket or any of the other amazing products available. Check them out at www.sharingsolace.com.
How creation and art can put you on the path to healing:
When we go through something as horrible as losing a family member, a child or a friend, it can feel like nothing in the world will be able to help us start to heal again. Of course, it takes time and as Crystal mentioned, you never really get over the grief. However, putting your passion and heart into creating something is a good way to start down that path. Crystal knew she needed to develop a community of support and a tangible gift to give to someone grieving because it was something she needed when she was going through it herself. It helped her to realize that she could give back to those going through those dark days and she could create something beautiful to honor her daughter’s legacy.
Patience really is a virtue :
Creating anything that means a lot to you can try anyone’s patience. You are so passionate and ready for it to come to fruition that it can be tempting to rush things. However, Crystal shared that being patient allowed her to experience the journey she needed to experience and open herself to experiences that she wouldn’t have had if she pushed things. Her “why” was way more important than making things go faster and creating this product taught her that good things take time and they are worth waiting for.
Sometimes you just can’t force it:
As business owners, we often feel pressure to post on social media, blog, create new content and more. All of that is great, but sometimes, it just doesn’t come naturally all the time. That pressure can trick us into not doing our best work and coming off as fake or disingenuous. It’s much better to try to create as much as possible, but not to force it. When you create when you feel inspired, the work will be better, and you’ll feel a lot less anxious. Just let the creativity flow when it does and take some of that pressure off yourself. We’re under enough already!
