One thing that I always encourage people to invest in is photography. Having professional photos of those important milestones and memories in your life will be something you can treasure for years to come. Whitney Robbins is in the business of preserving and capturing important milestones and memories in her client’s lives. In this episode, Whitney and I chat all about how to shift your mindset to increase your profitability, how to deal with people who don’t take you seriously as a business owner as well as her stress-free approach to social media.
The Struggle To Be Taken Seriously…
I am sad to say I’ve heard this from SO many women I interview. Whether it’s because of their age, how they look, their marital status or whatever…people just don’t take you seriously as a business owner. They assume you are doing this “for fun” or to “stay busy.” It’s frustrating and truthfully, sexist. We have to deal with it all the time, and even though it’s unfair, it’s nice to know how to deal with it if it happens to you.
First off, you don’t have to apologize for have multiple roles. You can be a mother AND a business owner. You can be a wife AND a business owner. You can be an employee at a corporate job AND b a business owner. Don’t let anyone put you into a box that you don’t want to be put in. We can be multi-faceted women with numerous passions, skills, and interests and still be legitimate in all of them.
Profitability-Stop Giving Away Money:
Negotiating and setting your prices has to be one of the hardest things to do as a business owner. How do you know what to charge? Will people think you’re overpriced? Will they be willing to pay? Will they believe your services are worth that? All these questions are valid, but they also can hold you back from making the money that you deserve and that you are worth. Don’t be afraid to charge what you think is fair and DON’T keep giving g out discounts. If your services are priced too high or too low, you’ll be able to tell. Stop giving away services and products because you’re afraid people won’t pay. If you’re providing a quality product with quality services, trust me, they will!
Stop Hunting For Followers and Start Catering Towards The Audience That’s Already Supporting You:
Instagram is a funny beast. It’s such a fantastic platform, but it can turn into your worst enemy if you let it. One tactic that Whitney found helpful was to stop continually hunting for new followers and start creating content for all the amazing followers and clients that were already there supporting her. This not only takes that pressure off, but it helps you stay in line with your brand and vision as well. If you are creating content for those ideal clients you already have, then you are bound to attract more of those ideal clients, not random followers that will never book you.
