In this episode we talk all about finding the type of client you want to work with, how done is better than perfect and how you can break a creative rut by consulting others outside your industry. You won’t want to miss hearing about Lydia’s inspiring journey and how she has taken risks to create a creative a life she loves.
Find The TYPE Of People Who You Want To Work With:
I know you’ve heard the term “ideal client” before. That the person that you are targeting all of your marketing to, the perfect you would kill to work with. Sometimes that person is really clear in your mind and you know exactly what market you want to target. However, when you’re starting out, that vision can sometimes be blurry. Lydia came up with a great way to not limit herself to one market and still work with her ideal clients. How you ask? She decided the type f person she wanted to work with. She pinpointed the values she wanted them to share. She taught out people that think and work in ways that she knows will be compatible with her. This means that Lydia’s ideal clients can span across multiple industries instead of just one. Now, her reach can be a bit bigger but she can still be safe in the knowledge that the clients she chooses to work with are going to mesh well.
Done Is Better Than Perfect:
Believe me, I get it. Starting something be can be scary. Actually it can be so scary that it can become paralyzing. We can stop ourselves from getting started until we have the perfect brand, until we have the perfect client, until we’re in the perfect mood….I’m telling you this list could go on forever.
But the thing is, you have to squash down all of those what ifs and I’m waiting until and just start. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Actually I’m telling you now it won’t be. But the tis ok! No one who ever started anything was perfect at it in the beginning and I can guarantee you will get better. Done is better than perfect and getting started is better than waiting. Trust me, you will look back in a year and be shocked at how far you’ve come.
Ask For Feedback Outside The Creative Community:
Whether you’re a creative or not, we all get into ruts sometimes. It’s unavoidable and can be extremely frustrating. So instead of giving up or calling up you’re go-to buddy for advice, try something different and ask for the perspective of someone outside your creative industry. I know that seems counterintuitive but believe me this actually works. Sometimes we are so close to our work that there are details and ideas that we just can’t see. And you’ve probably ben starting at your computer screen for hours on end so it’s possible your brain might just be fried and you can’t think anymore. Lydia suggests showing what you’re working on to someone who will have fresh eyes and a difference perspective. It also can be helpful to hear from someone who will be the target audience for whatever you’re working on. That target audience isn’t always other creatives so get out there and do some market research.
