Farrah was working in her corporate job, she remembers her friend coming up to her and telling her that she wasn’t living up to her potential. She has risen through the ranks and had been extremely successful in her job and couldn’t quite figure out what her friend meant. He then told her that he didn’t mean that she wasn’t great at her corporate job, but that she wasn’t following her passion, that she wasn’t living up to her full potential by following her dreams. He said she was a flower trying to grow in concrete.
I don’t know about you but I have absolutely felt like a flower trying to grow in concrete. I have had those nagging feeling that what I was doing was simply not fulfilling me and that I was destined for something greater.
That conversation with her friend along with her daughter’s questions about why she didn’t bake anymore sparked something in Farrah. She realized that she hadn’t done all the things she used to enjoy in a long time. Hell, she started remembering things she didn’t even remember she liked to do.
In this episode, Farrah and I talk all about rediscovering your passions and going after your dreams to create a beautiful, fulfilling and meaningful life that she doesn’t want to run away from. Farrah has some seriously impactful insights and such a refreshing look on life and I promise you-you will walk away from this episode feeling inspired.
Find Your Sense Of Purpose:
It can be really scary to decide to make a big change in your life. You don’t know what’s going to happen or how things are going to turn out. It can be especially scary when you are making a decision that will affect your career and income.
Farrah said that she knew the risk she was taking when she quit her stable, well paying corporate job. When I asked her how she found that sense4 of purpose and confidence to make the leap, her answer was so simple but so profound. She thought to herself that in her current position, she could be replaced so easily, and no one would really remember her or feel her absence when she was gone. When it came down to it, she decided she would rather follow her dream and make an impact then dedicate her life to a company that could so easily replace her.
She decided she had to do what was best for her and not worry about anything else. The company would be fine and they would find someone else to fill her position. So she stopped worrying about leaving and took a chance on herself.
Give Yourself Time To Remember What You Like To Do:
Life can get really hectic and sometimes it requires us to go into survival mode. Farrah talked about how she was a single mom and had to support her family and so survival mode was necessary. However, after raising a family, climbing the ladder at work and simply living day to day life, she realized one day that she hadn’t written poetry in 10 years. Poetry was something she wrote everyday and she knew that she needed to rediscover what she was passionate about.
Farrah suggests sitting down and making a list of all the things you like to do. It can be little things like dressing up or big things like running a marathon. Either way, Farrah says to take that list and start evaluating what you could actually do to make one of those things lucrative. Guaranteed one thing on there can be turned into something that can make you money, even if it’s just a side hustle. In the end, even if it doesn’t make you money or turn into a career, you’ll still be doing something you love every day.
Create A Life You Don’t Want To Run Away From:
If you are spending each week watching the clock or living your life waiting for the weekends then something isn’t quite right. If you feel that the only time you enjoy life is when you get to go on vacation then maybe it’s time to reevaluate. We can’t spend our lives being miserable 40 hours a week just to enjoy two short days then start the cycle over again.
Farrah finally got to a point where she realized that and decided that she wanted a life that she wanted to be present in 24/7. Vacations and weekends are great but she wanted to enjoy the weekdays too. We all deserve to wake up in the morning and be excited about the day ahead.
The first step to doing this? Mindset. Start believing that it’s possible and begin looking for small things in your day that can bring you closer to that goal. Go on a walk and enjoy the sunshine. Play your favorite music while cooking dinner. Find a great podcast to listen to when you’re at your desk.
You don’t have to make a massive, risky change to get started. Small, conscious changes each day can help you get in the habit of making your happiness a priority and the rest will follow.
